On the occasion of its Platinum Jubilee, the Society of Four Arts commissioned a master vision plan for the expansion of its campus including its museum, educational programs, library and historic gardens. Metropolitan Urban Design (MUD) Workshop examined the current state of the campus to address deficiencies and provided actionable strategies to create an identifiable image for the overall campus; to overcome the apparent lack of order, to analyze the pressing space needs for the O’Keeffe theater and galleries, and to examine ways to resolve the lack of sufficient parking for major events.

Supporting these strategies is a detailed analysis of existing and growing space needs. The recommendations go beyond simplistic thinking of acquiring more land for expansion, instead they reduce capital investment through minimal new building expansions in the short term coupled with a thoughtful and phased reorganization of the existing layout.
